sMiles for Amanda
Each year the residents of Horseshoe Valley and neighbouring communities have an opportunity to give hope to many through a run that was initiated in memory of Amanda Kelsall, who was suddenly taken to her heavenly home in January of 2014. This is a fun way for the community to unite and spread faith, hope and love.
In 2014, Amanda was in her second year of pursuing an education in Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She received her Medical Degree posthumously in 2016. After her homegoing, the Faculty of Medicine at uOttawa initiated the annual “sMiles for Amanda” run in 2014 as an opportunity to remember Amanda and to raise funds for a specific cause. In solidarity, runs have taken place internationally since then by those whose lives were touched by Amanda. WE Unite began the local annual run in 2016. The event has raised just under $23,000 since its inception for various causes.
Join the community in our third annual sMiles for Amanda charity run. This year donations will go towards the development of a community mental health centre designed specifically for youth and run by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County. Funds raised will help make this Barrie facility a safe and comfortable environment for youth and their families to access professional services including peer support, counseling, education, life skills and recreation provided by a range of health care professionals. Amanda Kelsall devoted her life and education to serving others and along with her classmates we continue this effort through this fundraiser. The event will include a warm-up and a go-at-your- own-pace trail run.
